Saints Youth Centre aims to improve the quality of life for
young people. It endeavours to provide, maintain and
promote facilities and activities of a social, spiritual,
educational and recreational nature. We have a dedicated
team of twelve leaders and eight volunteers who work with
young people between the ages of five and twenty five.
Monday, Wednesday & Friday are junior nights while Tuesday &
Thursday are senior nights. The centre provides
opportunities for young people to participate in new and
challenging experiences through our programmes. The staff
encourage the young people to gain positive experiences in a
safe environment. The core principles of youth work are:
participation, testing values and beliefs, acceptance and
understanding of others. Personal and social development
underpins all our work.

At the Saints we also have groups that go out of the centre
on a weekly basis. We have a senior group that meet every
Monday night at 6:15pm and go to Andersonstown Leisure
Centre to train. This group also meets up every second
Saturday were they go to the Brook Activity Centre. At our
centre we also have a wonderful summer scheme that runs for
four weeks in July. The young people also enjoy table
tennis, pool, snooker and we set aside time to discuss moral
and social issues, e.g. bullying, alcohol, drugs, peer
pressure etc. There have also been weeks away,
cross-community trips to Durham and Co. Claire.
The juniors also enjoy swimming, bowling, cinema and ice
skating trips which encourage them to meet new people. We
also have a tuck shop that the senior young people help
run. It is important to give them this sense of
responsibility and to work with their younger peers. In
years to come, it is hoped that the young people will be
able to take on the leadership roles they are very capable
of. The centre also sends our younger helpers on volunteer
development programmes. This means that they are learning
new skills that encourage them to fulfil their social
responsibilities as well as meet some of their needs. We
also have young men & young women’s groups and OCN Youth
Leadership training. |
