Papers (Pre-Nuptial Enquiry)
W
hen
you make your appointment with the priest of your parish
district, (which should be at least two months before your
wedding date), he will complete your Church papers with each of
you separately. If either of you live outside the parish, then
that person should contact their own priest to complete these
papers.
You
will need to bring with you
A Baptism Certificate
and a
A Confirmation Certificate (which must
be issued within the last six months.) These are obtained from
the parish(es) where these sacraments were administered.
Check with your priest if it is necessary for you to obtain
Letters of freedom.
If a
Decree of Nullity
(Annulment) has been issued to you or your intended spouse or
your previous spouse has died, then you will need to bring the
relevant documentation with you.
If a condition has been placed on someone in the Decree of
Nullity no booking for a marriage may be taken until the
Condition has been removed by the Bishop.
If your fiancé(e) is a member of another Christian denomination,
or a different faith, or if you wish to get married in the
church of another Christian denomination or place of worship
Dispensation from the normal Catholic form of marriage rite is
required
which must be sought and, though usually granted, cannot be
presumed. [No
dispensation from canonical form will be granted for a marriage
to take place in a purely secular location or, at present, in
the equivalent of a private Catholic oratory or school college
chapel.]
Your future spouse’s minister will of course be most welcome to
join in your marriage celebration.
