our child is being baptised into a believing community. This is
why we celebrate baptism as a community and not just a family.
In our
Parish baptism usually takes place on the
first Sunday of each month
and other children may be baptised at the same ceremony.
Should you
wish baptism to be celebrated by a priest, who is a relative or
friend please ask them to contact the presbytery well before the
scheduled date of the baptism ceremony.
If you want
your child baptised outside the parish you are living in, you
will need a letter of permission from one of the priests of the
parish you are resident in. Contact the parish office if you
require this.
Prayer is
offered not only for those being baptised, but for their
parents, godparents and for the whole Christian community.
Baptism takes place in a atmosphere of prayer and the active
participation of all present is encouraged.
Nothing
should intrude in the celebration of the sacrament.
For Child Protection reasons the taking of Photographs or videos
during the ceremony is not permitted.
You are very welcome to take photos of your child after the
ceremony at the Baptismal font or the Marian shrine. We ask you
to respect the sanctuary area (around the Altar) by not taking
photographs there. Mobile phones should, of course, be switched
off in the church.
There is no
‘fee’ for the sacrament of Baptism however if you wish to make a
offering to the celebrant, it is appreciated. Please do not
hesitate to contact the Parish if you have any queries or
concerns.
