The Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) was born out  of the will of young African Bishops during the Second Vatican Council  (1962-1965). They wanted to speak with one voice.  The establishment of SECAM is therefore the result of the bishops  resolution to build a continental structure in order to bring forth the African vision to the  whole Church.

Association of Episcopal Conferences of Central Africa

The Association of Episcopal Conferences of Anglophone West Africa (AECAWA) was inaugurated at Ibadan, Nigeria in 1977. A Regional Conference of this nature is a Conference which comprises the Bishops of a few National Episcopal Conferences of a given region. In our case, AECAWA is made up of the Inter-Territorial Catholic Bishops' Conference (ITCABIC) comprising The Gambia, and Sierra Leone, the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference (GCBC) the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Liberia (CABICOL) and the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN).

Association of Catholic Hierarchy of Egypt (AHCE)

The Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) is a service organization for the National Episcopal Conferences of the eight countries of Eastern Africa, namely Eritrea (1993), Ethiopia (1979), Kenya (1961), Malawi (1961), Sudan (1973), Tanzania (1961), Uganda (1961) and Zambia (1961). Somalia (1995) and Djibouti (2002) are Affiliate members.

It was founded in 1961 and its first Chairman was Most Rev. Adam Kozlowiecki, S.J. who is now a Cardinal; and Rev. Killian Flynn, OFM Cap as its first Secretary.

The Inter-Regional Meeting of the Bishops of Southern Africa (IMBISA) is an organ of Liaison and Pastoral Cooperation between Episcopal Conferences of Angola and São Tome & Principe (CEAST), Lesotho (LCBC), Mozambique (CEM), Namibia (NCBC), South Africa which is made up of Botswana, South Africa and Swaziland (SACBC) and Zimbabwe (ZCBC). The Region has 74 ecclesiastical territories. (Archdioceses and Dioceses)  IMBISA is comprised of two language groups (English and Portuguese).
